برهم‌کنش‌های ضعیف و تقارن‌های بالاتر امروزه برای نظریه ذرات بنیادی از اهمیت ویژه‌ای برخوردار است. اخیراً فیزیکدانان نظری و تجربی هر دو بیشتر و بیشتر به این موضوع علاقه مند شده اند. به دلیل موضوع پیچیده و ادبیات موجود کمیاب، معرفی مناسب در این موضوع خسته کننده است. پس زمینه ریاضی مانند جبر عالی و نظریه گروه و غیره را نمی توان بلافاصله در همه موارد اعمال کرد. سومین دوره دانشگاه Schladming در موضوع فوق به این دسته تعلق دارد. جلد اول تکمیلی حاضر "Acta Physica Austriaca" شامل تمام سخنرانی ها (با منابع ادبی) است که نه تنها مروری بر مبانی دارد، بلکه در مورد کارهای تحقیقاتی اخیر نیز بحث می کند. من عمیقاً امیدوارم که این نشریه خوانندگان علاقه مند را پیدا کند. در سال‌های گذشته، در فیزیک و ریاضیات مرسوم شد که مدارس تابستانی در موضوعاتی ترتیب داده شود که به دانش‌مندان باتجربه و جوان امکان می‌دهد به سرعت با رشته‌های خاص مدرن آشنا شوند. بحث‌ها و تماس‌های خصوصی این امکان را برای شرکت‌کنندگان فراهم می‌کند که به سرعت پیرامون موضوع مورد نظر را لمس کنند و کار تحقیقاتی جدیدی تحریک خواهد شد که در غیر این صورت نمی‌توان انتظار داشت. گراتس، اکتبر، 1964.

Weak interactions and higher symmetries are nowadays of special importance for elementary particles theory. Lately both theoretical and experimental physicists became more and more interested in the subject. Because of the complicated subject and the scarce available literature proper introductions in the subject are tiresome. The mathematical back­ ground such as higher Algebra and Grouptheory etc. cannot be applied immediately in all cases. The third Schladming University Courses on the above subject belong to this category. The present first supplement volume of "Acta Physica Austriaca" contains all lectures (with literature references) giving not only a review of the fundamentals but also discussing recent research work. I ,;incerely hope that the pUblication will find interested readers. In the last years it became customary in physics and mathematics to arrange summer schools on subjects which allow the experienced as well as the young scientiflt to get quickly acquainted with special modern fields. Discussions and private contacts make it possible for participants to touch quickly the peripheries of the subject in question, and new research work will be stimulated which otherwise could not be expected.
