این مجلد حاوی مقالاتی است که بیشتر آنها مطالعات تجربی در زمینه موسیقی شناسی سیستماتیک را ارائه می دهد. مشارکت‌ها به‌ویژه با جنبه‌های ملودی از جمله مدل‌سازی و تجزیه و تحلیل به کمک رایانه و همچنین با موضوعات مختلف در درک صدا و موسیقی، آکوستیک موسیقی و سایکوآکوستیک سروکار دارند. موضوعات از درک بلندی صدا در موسیقی «تکنو» تا تشعشعات صدا در سبک‌های آواز کلاسیک، و از تحقیق تامبر تا سنتز میدان موج و آکوستیک اتاق متغیر است. یک تمرکز این جلد بر روی موسیقی پاپ و راک است، دیگری بر روی موسیقی قومی و محلی است. علاوه بر تحقیقات تجربی، به موضوعات نظری و روش‌شناختی از جمله برخی مفاهیم بنیادی در اتنوموسیکولوژی و دانش موسیقی فولکلور پرداخته می‌شود.

This volume contains articles most of which present empirical studies in the field of systematic musicology. Contributions in particular deal with aspects of melody including modeling and computer-assisted analysis as well as with various issues in sound and music perception, musical acoustics and psychoacoustics. Topics range from loudness perception in ‘Techno’ music to sound radiation in classical singing styles, and from timbre research to wave field synthesis and room acoustics. One focus of this volume is on pop and rock music, another is on ethno and folk music. In addition to empirical investigations, theoretical and methodological issues are addressed including some fundamental concepts in ethnomusicology and folk music scholarship.

Albrecht Schneider, born in 1949, is Professor of Systematic Musicology at the Institute of Musicology, University of Hamburg. Among his many publications is Systematic and Comparative Musicology: Concepts, Methods, Findings, Frankfurt am Main, 2008.
Arne von Ruschkowski, born in 1976, is a member of the scientific staff at the Institute of Musicology, University of Hamburg. He currently finishes his PhD research on loudness perception.
