According to the website, the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is a compilation of articles covering subjects within the general discipline of philosophy. Unlike published dictionaries, however, this project was designed so that articles could be maintained and updated by an expert or group of experts in the field, making it a dynamic open-source literary project. Thus, articles are subject to modification should new research come to light. An editorial board oversees the submission all new entries and updates to existing entries so that the project will be of high academic value to researchers. Articles tend to range from short, insightful overviews to extensive introductions to specialized topics. Especially worthwhile is the extensive bibliographies that each entry includes, which at times borders on being somewhat exhaustive.
