زنان مسلمان در جنگ و بحران با ارائه دیدگاه‌های فرهنگی متنوع، مجموعه‌ای از مقالات اصلی را گردآوری می‌کند که تجربیات و دیدگاه‌های زنان مسلمان - رویاها و کابوس‌ها و مبارزات روزانه‌شان - را در زمان‌های تحولات اجتماعی عظیم نشان می‌دهد. نویسندگان با تحلیل نحوه بازنمایی زنان مسلمان و نحوه بازنمایی خود، از منابع اولیه از شعر و خاطرات گرفته تا گزارش های خبری و رسانه های تصویری استفاده می کنند. موضوعات عبارتند از: صلح طلبان در اندونزی استثمار در جمهوری اسلامی ایران شورشیان زنان چچنی بنیادگرایی در افغانستان، از اردوگاه های پناهجویان تا کابل خاطرات زنان مسلمان بنگالی، بمب گذاری های 7/7 لندن، زنان مسلمان بریتانیایی، و رسانه ها همچنین کاوش در چنین تصاویری در ایالات متحده، اسپانیا، یوگسلاوی سابق، تونس، الجزایر، لبنان و عراق، این مجموعه گروهی از صداهای چند بعدی را ارائه می دهد که با اسلام هراسی و کلیشه های مخرب مقابله می کند. این مطالعه با احتساب هویت نمادین ملی و مذهبی زنان مسلمان، فراتر از این جنبه‌ها می‌رود تا واقعیت‌های زندگی روزمره را در جوامعی بررسی کند که به دنبال قربانی هستند و برای دفاع از قربانیان جنایات نفرت کار چندانی انجام نمی‌دهند. با تقویت دیدگاه‌های علمی خود، بسیاری از مشارکت‌کنندگان (از جمله سردبیر) درگیری‌هایی را که تحلیل می‌کنند زندگی کرده‌اند. این پروژه از تجربیات دست اول آنها از جنگ و سرکوب سیاسی مرگبار بهره می برد.

Encompassing the symbolic national and religious identities of Muslim women, this study goes beyond those facets to examine the realities of day-to-day existence in societies that seek scapegoats and do little to defend the victims of hate crimes. Enhancing their scholarly perspectives, many of the contributors (including the editor) have lived through the strife they analyze. This project taps into their firsthand experiences of war and deadly political oppression.
