کتاب حاضر شامل مجموعه مقالات منتخب از پنجمین کنفرانس بین المللی انفورماتیک در اتوماسیون کنترل و رباتیک (ICINCO 2008) است که در فونچال-مادیرا، پرتغال، 11-15 می 2008 برگزار شد. این کنفرانس در سه مسیر همزمان برگزار شد: \"سیستم های کنترل هوشمند و بهینه سازی\" ، \"رباتیک و اتوماسیون\" و \"مدل سازی سیستم ها، پردازش سیگنال و کنترل\". کتاب بر اساس همین ساختار است. هدف از این کنفرانس گرد هم آوردن محققان، مهندسان و متخصصان علاقه مند به کاربرد انفورماتیک در کنترل، اتوماسیون و رباتیک است.
کاربردهای انفورماتیک در بسیاری از حوزه های کنترل، اتوماسیون و رباتیک فراگیر هستند و این کنفرانس قصد دارد بر این ارتباط تأکید کند، بنابراین، بیشتر مقالات کاربردهای فناوری اطلاعات (IT) در این زمینهها را برجسته میکنند و ایدههایی در مورد چگونگی حل مشکلات با استفاده از فناوری اطلاعات، هم در تحقیق و توسعه و هم در کاربردهای صنعتی ارائه میدهند. مقالات متنوعی در این کتاب گنجانده شده است، از مقالاتی که نمونههای اولیه، سیستمها، ابزارها و تکنیکهای پیشرفته را توصیف میکنند تا مقالاتی که نظرسنجیهایی را ارائه میکنند که مسیرهای آینده را نشان میدهند.

The present book includes a set of selected papers from the 5th "International Conference on Informatics in Control Automation and Robotics" (ICINCO 2008), held in Funchal-Madeira, Portugal, 11-15 May 2008. The conference was organized in three simultaneous tracks: "Intelligent Control Systems and Optimization", "Robotics and Automation" and "Systems Modeling, Signal Processing and Control". The book is based on the same structure. The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the application of informatics to Control, Automation and Robotics.
Informatics applications are pervasive in many areas of Control, Automation and Robotics, and this conference intends to emphasize this connection, therefore, most papers highlight applications of Information Technology (IT) in these areas and present ideas on how to solve problems using IT, both in R&D and industrial applications. A diversity of papers are included in the book, ranging from papers describing advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques to papers presenting surveys indicating future directions.
