Interstitial Cystitis

تا همین اواخر، سیستیت بینابینی به عنوان یک کنجکاوی اورولوژیک در نظر گرفته می شد، یک مشکل نادر با معیارهای تشخیصی نسبتاً خاص که بسیاری از اورولوژیست ها تنها یک یا دو بار در یک دهه آن را مشاهده می کردند. این در ده سال اخیر به شدت تغییر کرده است. سیستیت بینابینی در حال حاضر یک موضوع بسیار بحث برانگیز است که علاقه پزشکان به طور کلی، متخصصان اورولوژی به طور خاص، دانشمندان علوم پایه و حتی سازمان های دولتی را برانگیخته است. این یک اختلال (یا گروهی از اختلالات) بالقوه بسیار شایع تر و ویرانگرتر از آن چیزی است که تصور می شد. رشد تصاعدی در تحقیقات بالینی و پایه عمدتاً مرهون تلاش گروه‌های بیمار است که خواستار توجه بیشتر به این مشکل بودند. ما مدیون آنها هستیم که سیستیت بینابینی را در کانون توجه و به معنای واقعی کلمه زیر ذره بین قرار دادند. در این کتاب سعی شده است دیدگاه های فعلی متخصصان از سراسر جهان در مورد بسیاری از جنبه های این اختلال گردآوری شود. امید است بتوانیم با ورود به دهه 1990 تصویری از جایگاه خود ارائه دهیم. اگر کتاب بتواند سایر پزشکان و دانشمندان پایه را برای ورود به این حوزه تحقیقاتی هیجان انگیز ترغیب کند و بتواند هزاران بیمار مبتلا به این بیماری را امیدوار کند، آن را موفقیت آمیز می دانیم. قدردانی این کتاب به انجمن سیستیت بینابینی و صدها عضو آن تقدیم شده است که زمان و تلاش زیادی را برای کم کردن این بیماری به کار گرفته اند.

Until recently interstitial cystitis was considered a urologic curiosity, a rare problem with relatively specific diagnostic criteria that many urologists would see only once or twice in a decade. This has changed drastically in the last ten years. Interstitial cystitis is now a very controversial subject that has ignited the interest of physicians in general, urologists in particular, basic scientists and even government agencies. It is a potentially much more common and more devastating disorder (or group of disorders) than had been believed. The exponential growth in clinical and basic research is largely due to the efforts of patient groups who demanded that more attention be paid to this problem. We owe them a debt of gratitude for putting interstitial cystitis in the spotlight and quite literally under the microscope. In this book we have attempted to put together the current views of experts from around the world regarding the many aspects of this disorder. It is hoped that we can provide an image of where we stand as we enter the 1990s. If the book can stimulate other physicians and basic scientists to enter this exciting field of research, and if it can provide hope to the many thousands of patients who suffer from this disease, we will consider it a success.
